In this mode, there is a life display that is reduced by damage from attacks by monsters or other players, by falling too low, drowning, or by burning in lava until the player dies. Minetest has two game modes: Survival Mode and Creative Mode. Of those, only those that can currently be seen by one player are loaded or generated in memory. ![]() This is made possible by dividing the data of the game world into smaller sections, so-called "MapBlocks". The game world is generated continuously around the player as it moves around the world, and its extent to both sides and in height is limited only by technical limitations. For legal reasons, however, this content has been removed from the game. Up to the version 0.4.16 blocks were also rarely generated, which mimicked the Nyan Cat. In addition, the player has the opportunity to create an oven, with the help of which he can melt materials or cook food.ĭevelopers have added a fictional mineral called MESE, which allows the production of particularly stable tools and is used as the starting material for the circuit modification "Mesecons" and is thus comparable to the mineral "Redstone" in Minecraft. To gain new items or blocks not generated in the world, the player must create them (in the game, this process is called "crafting") or he creates tools to mine them (eg, he needs a pickaxe, stone, or minerals reduce). In this way, the player can build almost any building or structure that he can imagine. He can now place these newly acquired materials in the world again. The player can move freely in the landscape and reduce the materials that he finds around him. There are also various biomes that are modeled on the vegetation zones of the earth. The blocks are designed so that they emulate the earth as closely as possible, z. They are arranged in a fixed coordinate system and correspond to 1 m 3 in the real world. This world consists of 3D blocks with different textures representing different materials (eg wood, earth, stone). Try it today!Īt the start of the game, the player starts in a randomly generated world. Minetest is an Open Source Software project that is released under GNY Lesser Public License. This game is focused on construction, mining, and creativity. There are available mods and texture packs to personalize and customize the game in many more ways. This allows the creation of buildings, structures on a single player or on multiplayer servers. Players can build and destroy various types of blocks in an open 3D world. Probably lots of stuff I don't know about, though, so don't hesitate to poke around randomly on the forums or contentdb for anything that might catch your fancy.Minetest is a game made entirely of blocks just like Minecraft. The mod Technic is a widely used one that adds a whole bunch of "machines" you can craft - signal wires, automatic tools, power sources, that sort of thing. I'm actually in the process right now of trying to convert it to be compatible with Mineclone2 as well, but it's a really big blob of work so that may not be done soon. It adds a bunch of different sorts of large underground cavern systems to the first 4 kilometers or so of depth, making the underground much more diverse and interesting to explore. To slightly toot my own horn, my favourite mod that I've made is DFCaverns. What sort of a game are you interested in playing? Creative mode with lots of fancy stuff to build with, survival mode with challenging mobs and hunger mechanics and such, mapgen mods with various interesting features to explore? I am a moderately prolific modder myself and I've only recently started trying to account for Mineclone2 myself (it's easy and lazy to just assume the "default" game when writing code :) The downside is that a lot of other mods aren't compatible with Mineclone2, so you may not get to see some of the other diversity of stuff that's been created for Minetest. Well, as /u/Darth_Tiktaalik suggests there's Mineclone2 if you're interested in a close replica of the Minecraft experience. ![]()
